To truly be free of depression you have to go beyond the basics. 

You can get started with the basics right away.  They're small but powerful changes because of how often you deal with them throughout your week.  This next set of life skills I called pillars because they take time to build into your life but really strengthen you against the potential roof collapse of depression.  You could put more skills into this category but here are at least three that have truly helped me in my struggles.

KNOWING YOURSELF

You might be more of a mystery to yourself than you think and uncovering your feelings' deeper sources can be incredibly powerful.

COMMUNITY

We all need people to live life with, to lean on and be leaned on, to know and be known by. 

Communication

Difficult emotions are powerful inside of us and need to be given a name and spoken.
